A darkingly long slow burn rush of a movie. That’s how I describe this new Paul Thomas Anderson movie. Let’s just say I had a fun time with this film. If you can get around the symbolistic structure of a dark mirror pointing directly at what’s going on in this country. Then you will enjoy it like I did. I don’t know if I will say the dialogue of the screenplay is the best of the year but there are some really comedic parts in this that made me laugh out loud. Some are saying this is a modern day masterpiece and I don’t think I’m there to say that about this film. I might need some time to dwell on that but I will say it’s definitely in the Top 3 of my list of movies of the year. I just really enjoy an original motion picture and the funny dialogue that sprinkled in what is supposed to be a drama. PTA definitely has his own method in directing and I always savor what I’m seeing on the big screen. Although I might say it was a far approach to his usual storytelling and sometimes I felt I was watching a Coen Brothers film. Unquestionably a cat and mouse movie in a dog eat dog world. When I sat down I was ready to see this new Leonardo DiCaprio movie and how he was going to bring his “A” game. As he was really solid in this I must say Sean Penn stole the show and I was reminded of how great of an effin actor he is !!! This was Sean Penn at his best and I applaud him for it. In the first act of the movie I was looking at Teyana Taylor being the force of nature in scene stealing but Sean Penn slowly but surely took the movie over. Chase Infiniti and Bencicio del Toro were also very good in picture. As I heard this was Chase Infiniti’s first big feature film and she has a great future especially since she held her own with Leo and Penn in scenes. What a fun freakin movie. Loved the cinematography of the movie also. The highway point of view in the mountainous desert landscape was really well done. It gave me a sense of anxiety driven heavy solitude in a car chase scene where it felt like the characters were goin on a road to nowhere. This movie may not be for everyone but I can definitely tell this will definitely end up being considered a Cult Classic in the future
