Dark Psychological Trauma

The Penguin episode 4 “Cent’Ann”

We all have some kind of trauma as children that mold us into the adults we become. In this episode of The Penguin we get the humanized version of Sofia Falcone and her journey to the dark side of Gotham. As a child we get to see probably the most excruciating pain a child can endure with their own eyes. Something that is so dark and unanswered at that time it will leave a lasting impact upon this character. This episode does a good job explaining why and how Sofia Falcone is trying to take over her father’s empire. Let’s just say that this series was about how Colin Farrell’s acting execution was his best but now it’s about how Cristin Milioti has taken this series over. Since episode one she has been holding her own with Colin Farrell but now with this episode she gives a powerhouse performance. The downright dirty past of her family comes into fruition that leads her down the psychological trauma she didn’t deserve. What we have here with this particular episode are two character arcs that give this story true footing into this dark disaster that’s coming. Sofia has now turned into this humanized broken character that now makes us feel for her. All while at the same time without even showing him regularly in this episode how evil Oswald Cobb is and how he can betray anyone at anytime for his own benefit. We also get to see the best version of Arkham Asylum and how corrupt their doctors are while dealing with their troubled patients. It is a sad, dark yet satisfying episode that will leave you believing Cristin Milioti is someone to recognize as a damn good actor.
