Longlegs Rated R

It seems that horror thrillers are the trend that has taken over 2024. A genre that for years was lackluster and made for quick profit for studios. If there is anything that has been missing from horror/ thriller films is the context of weak characters, brainless deficient dialogue and weak same driven plot lines. Well this movie isn’t any of that. Longlegs is about an FBI investigation into a serial killer that has been on the loose for decades in the state of Oregon. Set in the 1990s Longlegs is the self given name of a serial killer that has been puzzling law enforcement for years. The crime scenes of his murders keep the investigation ongoing into a puzzling mystery. This story is a psychological look into an FBI Agent that has been tasked to help solve this case. Maika Monroe who plays FBI Agent Lee Harker is very mellow and mysterious in this film. At times it feels she’s unenthusiastic but it’s for a reason into her character. Directed by Osgood Perkins and cinematography by Andres Arochi is a well made movie and the aesthetic of it is well just dark, eery and gorgeous. The direction of this movie keeps you on your heels and trying to figure out what exactly is going on here. I must say when this movie was being released and being talked about. It was an excellent idea not to mention Nicholas Cage in their promoting because he is fantastic in this movie. Nic Cage has been known to really play up his parts in his acting performance and at times seems very cartoonish. Well this part was tailor made for some of his buffoonery cause it hits the nail on the spot for creepiness. Wow! Don’t bring your kids to watch this one cause it isn’t for children. There is some evil wicked tones in this so please remember you were warned. All in all it’s great to see something this good for this particular genre of horror thriller crime movies. No its isn’t up there with Silence of the Lambs or Seven but it is a top notch psychological crime thriller. As this is being my first time rating a movie on my blog I will use an 👽 as a guide and point system to grading or rating a movie based on 5 👽👽👽👽👽 heads being the top and of course zero or one 👽 being the lowest on my rating system. So as much ado I give Longlegs 👽👽👽👽 4 Alien Heads out of 5. You have to watch this one at lease once. Come on give it a chance.
